The Ultimate Upgrade: Bespoke Diamond Dials for Rolex

Owning a brand-new Rolex adorned with factory-set diamonds? That’s an easy choice for many collectors - a statement of elegance straight from the atelier. But what if your pride and joy is a vintage Rolex? Can you stroll into a Rolex boutique and request a diamond dial upgrade? Sadly, no. Rolex does not offer this service for older models.
For years, when clients asked me about adding diamonds to their Rolex dials, I had only one answer: aftermarket dials. Were they beautiful? Perhaps. Were they flawless like Rolex originals? Absolutely not. The printing lacked Rolex's razor-sharp precision, the finish never carried that enduring luster, and the overall craftsmanship fell short of the brand’s uncompromising standards. Yet, for a long time, it was the only option.
Then came a turning point. I discovered a dial from the 1980s - a genuine Rolex dial, but with a daring twist. Someone had removed the classic hour markers and replaced them with diamonds. It was bold, audacious, and undeniably stunning. At first glance, I almost believed it was a factory-original Rolex diamond dial. But upon closer inspection, the diamonds lacked quality, and the mounts looked hand-made, improvised for that project. Still, that moment sparked an idea: What if I could create this transformation myself - only better?
The Art Behind the Craft
The journey was anything but simple. The first challenge? Removing the original hour markers without disturbing the dial's pristine finish. I had done this before, but preserving the factory surface required surgical precision. After countless trials, I mastered the technique.
Next came the delicate process of drilling - tiny, perfect holes positioned between the original mounting points. This step demanded absolute accuracy; one slip could ruin the dial. Finally, the pièce de résistance: setting each diamond with meticulous care, ensuring symmetry and brilliance worthy of Rolex's legacy.
The Result?
A dial reborn - radiant diamonds shimmering against the original Rolex finish. It looks and feels like a factory masterpiece, yet carries a story of transformation and craftsmanship.
It is really a step up from a standard aftermarket dial. What used to be a standard black dial with Luminova sticks was converted into a diamond dial. The finish is original factory Rolex. The print is done by Rolex and as sharp and flawless as it should be. The Roman track is perfectly aligned and without any distortion. But now it is a diamond dial!
We can perform this modification on any factory-original "stick" dial. You can choose one from our curated collection or send us your own dial for customization. Please note: this process is only compatible with stick dials - it cannot be applied to Roman numeral or Arabic numeral dials.
Here is our project creating a diamond dial for Rolex 179383. We've started with a standard luminova stick dial, removed the sticks and installed the diamonds.
