Accessorizing Your Rolex with Diamonds
Share

Diamonds are timeless, and Rolex — as a luxury brand — is often associated with diamond-set watches. While Rolex produces around one million watches per year, and only a small percentage feature factory-installed diamonds. These are often off-shelf models, meaning they’re not publicly advertised or easily available through authorized dealers. But they can "special ordered".
A few lucky owners receive their watches with diamonds installed by Rolex at the factory. But what if you didn’t have the budget or taste for diamonds in the past — and now want to enhance your watch with a touch of luxury?
We can help you achieve that goal.
With extensive experience installing diamonds across various parts of Rolex watches, we offer tasteful and high-quality modifications. However, we strongly believe in reversible modifications — allowing you to restore your watch to its original state if needed.
Modifications We Advise Against
1. Diamonds on the Watch Case

This process involves drilling into the watch case, filling the holes with gold, and setting diamonds - a modification that is irreversible and can significantly reduce the watch’s resale value. While diamonds are often marketed as a luxury upgrade, it's important to understand that only stones with high-quality cut, clarity, and consistency hold real value.
In projects like these, however, the diamonds used are typically low-grade, selected more for quantity than quality. They may appear to "sparkle" simply because there are many of them. Unlike factory-set Rolex diamonds, these stones are not uniform in size or brilliance, and their setting is often less secure.
2. Diamonds on the Watch Band
Watch bands endure significant wear and tear — they're actually the most vulnerable part of your Rolex. That’s why Rolex designs its bracelets to be exceptionally durable, using high-quality materials and precise engineering.
Customizing your original Rolex band with aftermarket diamonds, often referred to as “icing out,” can compromise that durability. Not only does the drilling and setting process weaken the structural integrity of the bracelet, but the diamonds used in such projects are typically low-grade and poorly set.
Just like with iced-out cases, these modifications often rely on the cheapest available stones, which diminish both the aesthetic and long-term value of your watch.
To preserve the integrity and value of your Rolex, we suggest using aftermarket bands with pre-installed diamonds. These are designed specifically for customization and allow you to achieve the desired look without compromising your original bracelet.
Over time, it's common for these aftermarket diamonds to loosen and fall out, which not only affects the appearance but can also damage the case. For collectors and enthusiasts who value authenticity and long-term integrity, this kind of modification is rarely advisable.
Recommended (safe) Customizations

3. Diamond Bezels
A watch bezel is a separate, removable component of your Rolex watch, making it one of the easiest parts to customize or replace. Whether you're upgrading to a diamond-set bezel or switching styles for a new look, the process is relatively straightforward for a skilled watchmaker.
While most diamond bezels on the market are aftermarket, they can add a personalized touch to your timepiece. However, we strongly recommend keeping your original Rolex bezel. Why?
- Preservation of Value: The original bezel is part of what makes your Rolex authentic and collectible. Removing it for customization is fine—but storing it safely ensures you can restore the watch to its factory condition if needed.
- Future Restoration: Should you ever decide to sell or service your watch, having the original bezel can significantly increase its resale value and appeal to collectors.
- Authenticity Assurance: Original bezels are manufactured to Rolex’s exacting standards. Aftermarket bezels, while often visually appealing, may not match the same level of craftsmanship or durability.
Pro Tip: If you're considering a diamond bezel, opt for a high-quality aftermarket bezel and leave your original untouched. This way, you get the best of both worlds—custom style and preserved authenticity.
