Collection: Dials for Rolex Datejust II & Datejust 41
In response to the growing trend of larger wristwatches, Rolex introduced the Datejust II in 2009, expanding the classic Datejust line. As the name suggests, the Datejust II features a 41mm case, making it 5mm wider than the traditional 36mm Datejust.
Just a few years after its release, Rolex updated the model with a new movement and a totally new dial, leading to the introduction of the Datejust 41. While both models share the same case size and appear nearly identical at a glance, there are important differences beneath the surface.
Datejust II (2009–2016)
- Movement: Caliber 3136
- Dial Type: Flat dials with two mounting posts on the back
- Note: These dials are unique to the Datejust II and are not interchangeable with Datejust 41 dials.
Datejust 41 (2016–present)
- Movement: Caliber 3235
- Dial Type: Snap-on dials, similar to those used in the ladies’ and midsize models
- Note: These dials are not compatible with the older Datejust II.
Why Model Numbers Matter
Because the two models are visually almost identical, it is nearly impossible to distinguish them by appearance alone. That’s why we always rely on the model (reference) number and movement caliber to determine which dial will fit your watch.
